The Biggest Winner of the Porzingis Trade

The New York Knicks traded their star power forward Kristaps Porzingis to the Mavericks for a low return - presumably in order to open up roster spots for a superstar or two this offseason (Boston's Kyrie Irving and Golden State's Kevin Durant are the oft-heard names surrounding the Knicks' summer moves).

There were many winners in this trade: players, coaches and franchises alike. However, the participant in the Kristaps Porzingis trade who comes away the biggest winner is the man himself.

Porzingis has been stuck in New York for years, with a number of Knicks fans publicly ridiculing the team's decision to draft him, before doing a full-180 when he started putting up serious numbers.

Getting away from that, getting a fresh start, is a win in and of itself.

The best part about the trade for KP though, is that he gets to play with a European legend (of which Porzingis is almost certain to eventually become) in German big man Dirk Nowitzki, who can act as a mentor to him. Throw in teenage phenom, Luka Doncic, and you have a massively skilled young duo if you're the Mavs. For Porzingis, Doncic can take the heavy load, something he didn't have with the Knicks.

The Knicks nor the Mavericks are the biggest winner in the Kristaps Porzingis trade; Porzingis himself is.
