The Biggest Loser of the Porzingis Trade

Latvian power forward Kristaps Porzingis requested a trade from the New York Knicks today, and was promptly moved to the Dallas Mavericks.

The trade looked like this: KP, Tim Hardaway, Jr., Courtney Lee, and Trey Burke to Dallas for Dennis Smith, Jr., DeAndre Jordan, and Wes Matthews.

There are many winners to this trade, and some losers too. However, the participant in this trade who comes out looking the worst is the New York Knicks.

Although it's clear that the Knicks are looking to clear roster spots and cap space through this move, they could have gotten way more in return for their best two players and a young point guard who is an important part of their team (Courtney Lee didn't hurt that much).

Also, calling Porzingis the Knicks' "best player" is something of an understatement. He was supposed to be the team's future. Their franchise player for years to come. Losing that hurts, and although DSJ is an exciting player to watch, he isn't that.
