At this point, you've already seen the game on Thursday night, which means you know that the Raptors thumped the Pelicans by 15 without playing a single one of Kyle Lowry, Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard, Serge Ibaka, or Jonas Valanciunas. On the other hand, all of the Pels' starters, including Anthony Davis, played big minutes (Davis played 31 minutes, Jrue Holiday 29).
This shows the absolutely insane depth that head coach Nick Nurse has to work with. The usual Bench Mob members had themselves a day, as usual, but even the new additions to the second unit (Greg Monroe, and former Raptors 905 guys, Malachi Richardson and Lorenzo Brown) and guys on training camp contracts (Kay Felder, Eric Moreland, and Jordan Loyd) played at or above the level of the Pelicans' starting lineup.
Pascal Siakam, electrifying young power forward, led the bench with 26 points, 6 assists, and 11 boards in 28 minutes. Those are near Giannis-like numbers right there. Raptors fans have been saying it for a little while now: this Siakam guy is special.
Outside of Siakam, OG Anunoby (15 points and 2 assists) and CJ Miles, (14 points in 11 minutes) showed up for the Bench Mob, putting the league's other bench squads on notice.
As for the new guys, Eric Moreland put up 12 points and 12 boards, Malachi Richardson scored 21 points in 27 minutes, and Kay Felder put up 15 points and 6 assists.
Obviously, none of these guys were able to even come close to containing AD, who scored 36 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in his 31 minutes. New Pelican, Julius Randle, played well for his team as well, to the tune of 20 and 11.
Despite the strong efforts from Davis, Randle, and Jrue Holiday, (14 points, 8 assists, and 6 boards) the Pelicans seemed to be unable to get a lead at all throughout the night, eventually losing 119-134.
