Breaking Down John Wall's Hot Take on the Power Struggle in the Eastern Conference

Washington Wizards All-Star point guard John Wall has had a busy week. Just days after claiming to be a top-5 point guard in the league, (which would mean he believes he's better than one of: Damian Lillard, Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, or Kyrie Irving) he said on Friday that he saw the Wizards as a top contender in the East, along with the Celtics, 76ers, and Raptors. In a statement to Michael Lee from Yahoo Sports, Wall said:

"I feel like we're all equal. None of them won a championship."

After praising the talent and potential of all three teams to ensure his words weren't misconstrued as disrespect, he went on to say:

"I know one guy that separated himself every year and that was Lebron James and the Cavs."

While I appreciate that Wall was showing deference to the clearly superior teams in the conference, I had to, as soon as I read this quote, wonder if he truly believes this nonsense, or if he's just putting on airs for team morale purposes. If I had to guess, I would go with the latter. On the other hand, I would not be at all surprised if he meant both of his recent questionable statements, because both are slightly conceivable, seeing as Wall is on the cusp of being a top-5 point guard in the NBA, (I'd say top-7 personally) while the Wizards have a lot of talent on the roster in the form of Bradley Beal and Otto Porter. At the end of the day though, while I can respect his confidence and at the same time how he showed love to the real top-tier Eastern Conference teams, I can't in good conscience believe or in any way suppoert the truth behind either hot take.
